Speaking on Radio One to Nick Grimshaw she said: "I full on started panicking when I woke up on Sunday. I've been planning it [the teaser], for a while and I was nervous.

"I was just relieved that nothing has to be a secret anymore. They played it after a pizza advert... typical," she laughed.

She went on: "It went quiet in my house. I thought everyone would think it was a John Lewis advert.

"Then I went on Twitter.... and I could only see three tweets (about the song), so I thought that's it, I've missed my window. Then my boyfriend said 'There's loads'."

Adele confirmed her new album will be released on 20 November

Since 21, which sold 30 million copies and won album of the year at the 2012 Grammys, her life has changed immeasurably. She has settled down with boyfriend Simon Konecki and become a mother to their son Angelo. Adele has also passed her driving test and her shopping habits have changed.

"I do shop at Waitrose these days. That's the biggest change,' she laughingly told Nick. "And I've got a plasma."

Adele - Hello (Official Music Video)

Hello is the lead single from her long-awaited third album 25, which comes almost five years after her last. The singer made her Instagram debut to announce the news, that it will be out on 20 November. Within an hour her new Instagram profile had already attracted close to 20,000 followers.

The announcement came 24 hours after she released an emotional statement on Twitter, confirming that 25 and will be a "make-up record" that focuses on the point in her life where she became a "fully-fledged adult".

The statement explained that the new disc will not dwell on the past but instead focus on the future.

"My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record," Adele wrote. "I'm making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven't got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What's done is done."

She continued: "Turning 25 was a turning point for me, slap bang in the middle of my twenties. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, I made the decision to go into becoming who I'm going to be forever without a removal van full of my old junk."

"I'm sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened."
