It has been an incredibly hard week for Celine Dion as she said goodbye to her husband René Angélil on Thursday. In another devastating blow, it has been revealed that her older brother Daniel is also fighting a very serious battle with cancer.
In a interview, that was published on Friday, with The Journal of Montreal, Celine’s sister Claudette spoke about her brother’s condition. "It’s very painful. It’s a matter of days or hours," she said through tears. "It looks a lot like René, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain. Our family is very experienced," she added.

"He is 59-year-old, very young to be the end of his life," she said of Daniel, who is one of fourteen in the Dion household. Despite the pain she is feeling for her brother, Cluadette, 67, also took time to address her sadness at the passing of her brother-in-law, René. He was "outstanding," she said. "We have received a lot of support and comfort after the announcement of his death. It shows how great he was and that he touched so many before. It is heart-warming to see how much he was loved."
The Canadian singer lost her husband on Thursday
The My Heart Will Go On singer is yet to comment on the news, but her representative did confirm Daniel’s illness on Friday to ET. The news comes as Celine is organising her husband’s funeral to be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal on Thursday 21 January.
The service in the Chapel of Rest will be open to the public, for them to say their final goodbyes to a one of Canada’s biggest music moguls. In addition to the religious service, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Caesars Palace Colosseum, where Celine holds her Las Vegas residency.
