The pair, along with Eternals co-star Gemma Chan, were unable to attend the Elle Women in Hollywood event on Tuesday after Disney confirmed they were pivoting to virtual appearances.

Eva Longoria accepted the award for Angelina who wrote: “I am thinking tonight of all of the women who are bringing us through the pandemic. The scientists, the doctors and nurses, and so many others who are showing us what strength and sacrifice are and whose contribution transcends borders.

"One of the best things about being part of Eternals was working with such a global cast. Women who were born in countries where the struggle for equality and rights is even more challenging than it is here.

"Women who know that what makes them different is what makes them beautiful and gives them even more to contribute.”

Angelina was awarded for her advocacy for refugees while Salma was praised for her work with domestic violence survivors. Gemma has spoken out against AAPI violence and their co-star Lauren Ridloff, who, like her Eternals character Makkari, is deaf, was honored for her contributions to cinema.

"I’m so sorry that I can’t be with you this evening, but I am so proud to be honored alongside such incredible women: Angelina, Salma and Lauren," Gemma shared in a virtual appearance at the ceremony.

"All of you I admire greatly, not just for everything they’ve achieved in their careers, but for everything they stand for in life and their advocacy."

Gal Gadot, Jennifer Hudson, Rita Moreno and Halle Berry were all also honored at the ceremony.

"I am so deeply grateful to be with you tonight in person," shared Elle's editor-in-chief Nina Garcia as she opened the evening, adding: "However, the reality of the world we are now living in requires new rules.

"As you may have heard, the cast of Eternals, who we are honoring here tonight, was just exposed [to COVID], and to keep everyone safe those superheroes are now in super-isolation. Sorry, but that is the new reality."

"Earlier today we were made aware of a possible exposure to COVID-19, and while all of our talent have tested negative, out of an abundance of caution, we are pivoting to virtual appearances rather than in-person events," a spokesperson for Disney shared on Tuesday.

Angelina and her children were all potentially exposed on Monday

Both Angelina and Salma took their children to the big event on Monday, with Angie hitting the red carpet alongside Maddox, 20, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and 13-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

The family pulled out all the stops and all looked ultra-glamorous as they posed together on the red carpet – especially Zahara, who borrowed her mom's 2014 Academy Awards dress, a stunning Elie Saab Couture champagne-colored gown.

Talking about their choice of outfits, the proud mom-of-six revealed to ET on the red carpet: "My kids are all mixed with vintage, and in my old Oscars dress. We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff."

Salma was joined by her 14-year-old Valentina Paloma Pinault, with Salma opting for a stunning sleeveless black Gucci gown with a plunging neckline and a high slit and Valentina rocking for a mini black dress with white polka dots by Saint Laurent, sheer black tights, and matching ankle boots.

Eternals, directed by this year's Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, follows a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilisations.

The upcoming film's official synopsis reads: "Marvel Studios' Eternals features an exciting new team of Super-Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years.

"Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants."
