Celebrities meeting royals: From Beyoncé and Jay Z to Angelina Jolie

Once divine rulers of the land, members of the royal family were the original celebrities. Even now, some of Hollywood’s biggest names - from Madonna to Taylor Swift - still get star-stuck when they encounter royalty. A meeting with the Queen is considered to be an especially esteemed honour – one that requires A-listers to follow formal royal etiquette. We love when real-life royalty meets on-screen royalty! Olivia Colman and Duchess Kate looked equally happy to be meeting each other at the 2019 BAFTAs. Olivia, 45, took home the award for Best Actress for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite. She also plays Queen Elizabeth II in the critically acclaimed TV show, The Crown... So she knows a thing or two about the British royals!
Speaking to People after the exciting encounter, the British star revealed the couple were "absolutely lovely" and "absolutely wonderful" – and they enjoyed watching The Favourite!

While attending the 2019 BAFTAs, Prince William had the chance to chat with on-screen Freddy Mercury, frontman of Queen, Golden Globe winner Rami Malek, who took home the award for Best Actor that evening! Bohemian Rhapsody took home best drama motion picture at this year's Golden Globes, and is in the running as the Oscars. We wonder if William is a big Queen fan?

The Duke of Cambridge also stopped to chat with Black Panther star Letitia Wright! They appeared to be having a rather animated conversation. The 25-year-old actress took home the Rising Star Award that evening.

Prince Charles shared a laugh with Tom Hiddleston while visiting the British Film Institute Southbank on Dec. 6, 2018 to celebrate the royal's 40th year as its patron. The Avengers star revealed that the future monarch said he watched his series The Night Manager and enjoyed it "very much." Prince Charles also shared memories of visiting the set of a Pink Panther film, sharing, “I remember they did 18 takes!” The 70-year-old also met Selma star David Oyelowo.

A few months before they made their well-heeled appearance at Prince Harry and Meghan's royal wedding, actor Idris Elba and partner Sabrina Dhowre shook hands with Prince Charles.
