Summer is just around the corner, and our calendars are quickly filling up with weekend dinner parties and backyard barbecues. Whether you’re attending someone else’s soirée or hosting your own foodie fête, the goal is to make sure the evening goes off without a hitch – which, admittedly, is easier said than done.
So how exactly does one go about hosting the dinner party of the year?
Celebrity Chef Lynn Crawford is an expert at entertaining at home, so Hello!Canada caught up with the Canadian Food Network star in her gorgeous IKEA SEKTION kitchen to ask her about some of her top tips and tricks.
“I cook with the seasons, I cook with ingredients, I cook for the people I’ve invited over, but I like when people participate," she says.
Gathering her guests around her big kitchen island – a must-have for any chef, says Lynn – the food connoisseur insists that everyone be involved in the process. It's more fun that way. “We do a little prep, we cook together and then we share that meal together and have a good laugh,” she says.

And what about being a gracious guest?
“I’m not often invited to dinner parties where I don’t cook!” she joked, adding, “A lot of people are intimated to cook for me, “but I am the easiest person in the world to please!”
When it comes to the menu, Chef Lynn is all about fresh, seasonal ingredients. Here, the restaurateur shared some mouthwatering yet simple-to-execute recipes with Hello! that are perfect for a summer meal, including roast salmon with quinoa salad, calypso shrimp and shortcakes for dessert (mmm!).
