The Duchess of Cambridge's best evening gowns

Whenever Duchess Kate steps out for a formal affair, all eyes are on her latest evening look. From elegant, off-the-shoulder chiffon gowns to pops of red or turquoise, silky one-shouldered grey affairs and trendy mullet-style confections, the Duchess of Cambridge always keeps us guessing.
We’ll see Kate in what’s sure to be yet another breathtaking gown at a state dinner at Buckingham Palace as part of an annual reception for NATO leaders hosted by the Queen on Dec. 3.

Just a few weeks ago, Kate stepped out in a gorgeous Alexander McQueen black lace gown as she and Prince William took in the Royal Variety Performance. She paired it with black heels and a matching clutch. Her accessories featured a lovely nod to Canada as well, as she wore Erdem earrings.

While in Pakistan on tour earlier this year with Prince William, Kate wore this breathtaking green Jenny Packham gown to a reception at the National Monument in Islamabad. William looked just as great, stealing the show in a traditional teal sherwani by Naushemian.

On June 4, Kate looked stunning in this incredible white Alexander McQueen at a state banquet held at Buckingham Palace in honour of US President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK. She paired it with the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara and also wore the Queen Mother’s diamond and sapphire fringe earrings.

The Duchess of Cambridge was a vision in white Alexander McQueen for the 2019 BAFTAs on Feb. 10. Walking the red carpet with her husband, Prince William, the mother of three turned heads in the one-shoulder gown, decorated with floral appliqué on the shoulder and boasting a flattering empire waistline. She accessorized the look with a pair of diamond and pearl earrings once owned by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, as well as a diamond bracelet, Jimmy Choo Romy 100 Delivered with Chocolates style pumps and a white clutch, thought to be a bespoke piece by Alexander McQueen.

So glamorous! Kate joined other senior members of the Royal Family for the Queen's annual Diplomatic Reception in December 2018, wearing the faintest blue Jenny Packham gown featuring ruched cap sleeves and delicate beading. She topped her look off with her favourite tiara, the Cambridge Lover's Knot. This was also the second time she was photographed wearing her yellow Royal Family Order, which recognizes the hard work of female family members.

Kate is the queen of recycling amazing outfits, and the Tusk Awards in November 2018 were a great example! The 36-year-old wore one of her favourite teal Jenny Packham gowns as she joined her dapper tuxedo-clad husband, Prince William, for the glitzy event at Whitehall's Banqueting House. She wore silver sandals and carried a matching teal clutch.

For a state banquet honouring King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands in October 2018, Duchess Kate dazzled in a new design by Alexander McQueen - an icy blue mermaid-style gown with a gathered bodice and off-the-shoulder neckline. She topped it off with a treasure trove of historic baubles: Queen Alexandra's 19th century Wedding Parure necklace, Princess Diana's Collingwood pearl earrings and her favourite Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara. The piece de resistance? Her Royal Family Order – a very prestigious honour that many countries have within their own royal families. Kate's, from Her Majesty, boasts a portrait of the Queen surrounded by diamonds on a yellow ribbon.

Pregnant Kate was the belle of the ball while on tour in Norway in 2018, dazzling in a caped, pale pink Alexander McQueen gown with silver embellishments while enjoying a state dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo. She carried a pretty, jewel encrusted Jimmy Choo Clutch and wore the Queen's diamond drop earrings and bracelet that was a wedding gift from Prince Philip.

Kate stole the show at the 2017 BAFTA awards dressed in a bespoke strapless black Alexander McQueen gown embellished with white flowers. She wore her hair swept back in a chignon to highlight her dazzling diamond drop earrings.

In March 2017, Kate stepped out in a stunning green lace Temperley gown to attend the National Portrait Gallery's annual gala. The mother of two paired her gown with a glitzy gold clutch, and wore her hair down in loose curls, with natural make-up to complete the look.
She accessorized with a pair of special edition earrings by Kiki McDonough, that featured pink tourmaline, green amethyst and pave diamond earrings in 18ct yellow gold.

During her first visit to Paris as a senior royal in 2017, Kate made a sartorial splash in an eye-catching floor-length gown by Jenny Packham. Kate perfectly accessorized the dress's delicate crystallized overlay with a pair of diamond earrings and bracelet on loan from the Queen.

Kate turned to an old favourite for the East Anglia's Children's Hospices' Nook Appeal dinner in June 2016. The mother of two wore the same sequin-embellished Jenny Packham number she stepped out in at ARK's 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner in London in June, 2011.

Clad in royal blue, Kate hosted an elegant dinner at Kensington Palace for SportsAid, a charity for which she is a patron. The royal wore a figure-hugging silhouette with cutout shoulders by Roland Mouret.

It was all eyes on the Duchess of Cambridge at the Taj Tashi Hotel in 2016, where the stylish royal stepped out for the UK Bhutan Reception. Kate paid tribute to her host country with her ensemble, an elegant poppy-printed silk chiffon gown from Beulah that paid tribute to the country's national flower.

For her final engagement during her royal tour of India and Bhutan in 2016, a private dinner with the King of Bhutan, the Duchess of Cambridge slipped into a spotted maxi dress by American designer Tory Burch. The gown featured a classic column shape and was embroidered with jewel-toned beading. She topped off the fun dress, which was also sported by Drew Barrymore, with a burnt-orange shawl.
