They don’t call it the Glamour Women of the Year Awards for nothing. On Monday Nov. 10, some of the world’s most stylish and esteemed women attended a star-studded gala in New York City celebrating female empowerment and honouring women's achievements.
The magazine’s cover girl, Lupita Nyong’o, embraced the spotlight in a stunning white dress with gold crystal-encrusted embellishments paired with gold pumps. The 31-year-old actress finished the look with metallic eye shadow and matching nail polish.
Lupita, who burst onto the scene last year for her moving performance in 12 Years a Slave, has had a truly remarkable year. The Lancôme spokesmodel, Oscar winner and filmmaker is often touted as a role model for young women and young black girls in particular.
"There's room in this world for beauty to be diverse," she told Glamour.
At the event, the actress was seen mingling with fellow honouree Chelsea Clinton, who wowed in her first red-carpet appearance since giving birth to baby Charlotte six weeks ago. She was joined by her proud mother, Hillary Clinton.
"I had sort of wondered if I'd get to wear a fancy dress and high-heeled shoes again," Chelsea said, which drew appreciative laughs from the audience.
Other famous faces who were honoured included Mindy Kaling, model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova, Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox, and Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton.
