The temperature drop was no match for award season’s big stars as dresses and gowns alike took centre stage everywhere from New York to Los Angeles.
French actress Marion Cotillard made her red-carpet revival at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in a sculptural Christian Dior ensemble with unexpected sequin underlay and pointy Dior pumps. Kyra Sedgwick also caught our eye at the event in an elegant, off-the-shoulder design by SAFiYAA. The actress let her dress do all the talking, accenting her look only with a rose gold cuff and minimal makeup.
Also turning heads in NYC were Julianne Moore, Felicity Jones and Girls star Zosia Mamet. At the HBO show’s season premiere party, Zosia wowed in a leather, fire-engine red frock by Alexander McQueen and coordinating Wizard of Oz-inspired satin pumps.
Felicity Jones channeled her inner Twiggy in a striking Joseph shift dress and edgy patent leather booties. And, in our eyes, Golden Globe nominee Julianne Moore was the big winner in a Dolce & Gabbana black carnation-print dress with macramé lace bodice and Aquazzura heels.

Meanwhile, in Palm Springs, Reese Witherspoon was the belle of the ball at the International Film Festival Awards Gala in a dynamic pearl-embellished dress by Michael Kors, paired with loose waves and a flirty pink pout.
And back in L.A., Hollywood shone bright at the People’s Choice Awards, where Viola Davis, Katharine McPhee and Caitriona Balfe took the red carpet by storm. Viola, who took home a trophy for her starring role on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, opted for a vibrant rose-coloured Escada gown and metal minaudière. Katharine made waves all her own in a sultry two-piece look by Balmain featuring a cross-over halter top and striped pencil skirt, plus strappy Daniele Michetti sandals. Outlanders star Caitriona Balfe also stunned at the event in a Valentino trapeze dress and Aquazzura heels.
