Joe Zee is headed back to Canada to host the 2015 Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (or CAFAs). The annual event celebrates the best this country has to offer when it comes to style, as well as those who have supported homegrown design. This year’s honourary co-chairs are Roots founders Michael Budman and Don Green.
Joe started his two decade-long career in our home and native land, growing up in Toronto before attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and becoming one of the most in-demand stylists to the stars and brands. His A-lost roster includes the likes of Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez as well as Old Navy, Banana Republic and Chanel.
He also found some time to bring high fashion to the masses by taking on director roles at W magazine and ELLE. Most recently, Joe was named the editor-in-chief and executive director of Yahoo Style, where he works with Katie Couric and Marissa Meyer. Some of his television credits include Good Morning America, The Today Show and CNN.

“CAFA is starting a movement in Canada and creating a platform for the future of Canadian fashion,” he says. “I’m so honoured to be a part of this amazing event that recognizes exceptional Canadian fashion and design talent here in Canada and around the world.”
Joe will receive the Vanguard Award at the Jan. 31 event, which recognizes those who have brought international attention to the fashion industry. At last year’s CAFAs kick off, fashion journalist Jeanne Beker was the inaugural recipient.
This country’s newest designers are also up for several statues at the 2015 awards show. Beaufille, Sid Neigum, Matthew Gallagher and Malorie Urbanovitch have been nominated for the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent, while Kat Marks, Beaufille, The Leather Atelier and Jon De Porter are up for the evening’s emerging talent award for accessories.
Of honouring the likes of Joe and the Roots team as this year’s event, managing director Vicky Milner had this to say: "As design trailblazers, it is a true privilege to work with Michael and Don. Additionally, we are honoured to have Joe hosting the awards, given his extraordinary achievements in the global fashion industry. Supporting Canadian fashion is integral to our cultural landscape and we’re thrilled to celebrate with such industry giants.”
Other sponsors of the evening include SEPHORA and Porter.
