Penélope Cruz is having one fashionable, albeit over-the-top, birthday this year! The Spanish actress is hard at work on the Italian set of Zoolander 2, where she was recently spotted giving the term muy caliente new meaning in a fiery, scarlet-leather catsuit. The comedy, which co-stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, is a change of pace for the beautiful leading lady, who has made a name for herself starring in heart-wrenching dramas like Broken Embraces and Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
But one thing remains the same: Penélope is as red hot as her sizzling career.
"Has anybody ever fainted here? Because I may be the first one,” said an overwhelmed Penélope backstage in the 2009 Oscars’ press room after winning the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her turn in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. It was the first time a Spanish-born actress took home an Academy Award. (Penélope became the first Spanish actress to receive a nomination two years earlier for her role in Volver).
With other hit films like Blow, Elegy and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in her bank of memorable performances, the L'Oréal beauty ambassador hopes to add to her hit list with a trio of upcoming projects - two Spanish films and the action-comedy Grimsby, opposite Sacha Baron Cohen.
The Madrid native’s love life has also been a scorcher! She starred opposite and fell in love with Tom Cruise while filming Cameron Crowe’s dark drama, Vanilla Sky, in 2001. After the beautiful duo called it quits in 2004, Penélope enjoyed a two-year romance with Matthew McConaughey.
In the end, the on-screen chemistry between Penélope and Javier Bardem in Vicky Cristina Barcelona (and first ignited on the set of 1992’s Jamón, Jamón) couldn’t be contained and the two Spanish stars tied the knot in 2010. They now have two children together – four-year-old Leo and daughter Luna, 20 months.
