Victoria Beckham has sought some unlikely inspiration for her brand new collection, the first following the former Spice Girl’s merging of her Victoria, Victoria Beckham and Victoria Beckham Denim collections.
Inspired by the circus, Victoria has injected a heavy dose of fun and colour to her pre-spring/summer 2016 collection, also known as Resort.
Her designs incorporate the graphic motifs of fairground rides, prints of animals including horses and elephants, and even a few patterns of performers and acrobats – a far cry from Victoria’s trademark monochrome clothing.
One floral print was even inspired by her trip to China earlier this year, when Victoria came across a flower that she liked and decided to feature it on one minidress in yellow, blue and red.
Designing for every woman, Victoria has also created less loud and bold ensembles, with some pieces focusing on just one colour or pattern, or containing very subtle motifs.
Fluidity and loose shapes still remain a priority in her collection. The former pop star has designed pieces with billowing cape sleeves, fluted chiffon skirts and wide-leg culottes.
Describing her new circus-inspired numbers, Victoria told WWD: “I’m really excited about this collection – it’s exactly what I want in my wardrobe, these are things that I want to wear, and I think these are things that my customer wants to wear.”
The mom-of-four went on to describe her typical client as someone who is a fan of her mainline collection but also has “the other side to her wardrobe”.
Back in May, David Beckham’s wife announced that she would be merging her two brands to tackle a more casual market and to cater for all areas of her clients’ lives.
“I am very proud of the sense of fun and inclusiveness we’ve created with our sister brand since we launched,” Victoria told the same publication. “It’s now time to take the VVB girls on further adventures – beyond the parties and cocktails and into the workplace and the everyday.
“The key elements of the denim collection that have resonated incredibly well with my girl fit so neatly within the Victoria, Victoria Beckham line that over time we saw it only made sense to combine the two into one collection. The possibilities are really exciting.”
