Her tough-as-nails Game of Thrones character, Brienne of Tarth, may prefer armour to dresses, but Gwendoline Christie has higher fashion inclinations. The blond beauty has been tapped for her first high-fashion campaign as the new face of Vivienne Westwood.
“I am so proud to be part of Vivienne Westwood’s A/W 15 campaign. I have admired Vivienne ever since I can remember for her revolutionary mind and exquisitely rebellious designs,” Gwendoline told Grazia. “I love the ‘UNISEX’ theme of this collection. It is so relevant for Vivienne Westwood to reassert their activist mindset and create a collection that takes us beyond our current gender stereotypes with beauty and intelligence.”
Photographed by Jueren Teller, the actress, who stars in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2 out later this year, shows off her model credentials in dazzling pieces from the designer’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, in everything from a black leather coat to a striking dark blue off-the-shoulder gown and a colourful tartan-patterned dress.
“Described as “a really interesting woman” by Vivienne, Gwendoline Christie was the perfect choice for our #AW1516 campaign,” read a statement on the label's Instagram page, alongside one of the striking images. “Photographed by @juergentellerpage #VivienneWestwood #GwendolineChristie #JuergenTeller.”
Gwendoline is no stranger to the world of fashion – the star has been dating designer Giles Deacon since last year and regularly appears on the front row of his shows during fashion week.
However, fans were not surprised that she turned to Vivienne for her first modelling campaign – earlier this year she caused a stir when she stormed the runway for the designer during her London Fashion Week presentation rocking a large grey hat and dramatic eye make-up.
