As fate would have it, I was staying at the Trump SoHo during my time at NYFW, also known as a celebrity hub of New York Fashion Week. I rode the elevator with Jessica Alba and her daughter, was down the hall from Kiernan Shipka and bumped into Rachel Zoe in the lobby. But by far the most visible set of stars were the Kardashian/Jenner clan. In fact, I saw the Kardashian “krew” so many times I’m fairly certain I now qualify as one of their distant relatives (third cousin, perhaps?).

Being in such close proximity to reality TV royalty I learned a few valuable tips. Here are my top takeaways:
MONOCHROMATIC DRESSING, DO IT
Head-to-toe black, crisp white (after Labour Day!), rich camel or army green – the Kardashians' fashion week uniform was all about tone-on-tone colour. Complete your outfit with sleek hair and a bright lipstick a laKourtney Kardashain when she took in Alice + Olivia’s show.
(Note: Hair seems to be a loophole to the monochromatic rule. Enter Kylie’s mint mane)
SHEER PANELS, OF COURSE
Khloe danced enthusiastically in a sheer, body-conscious dress at Alexander Wang’s after party and Kim revealed a growing baby bump at Givenchy’s soirée. From lace to mesh, a cheeky peek-a-boo panel is a Kardashian essential for an evening event. But, refer to rule number one when choosing colour. Even with gaps in clothing, outfits must remain monochromatic.
POINTS FOR POSTURE
Most celebrities enter or exit an event with the same choreography: Head down, arm up (to shield the blinding paparazzi flashes) and a pace that could rival Usain Bolt’s record speed. Not true for the Kardashians. To greet the growing mob encamped outside our hotel each day, the stars would stroll calmly out and pause graciously for pictures (one leg in front of the other, elbows back, head held high) before stepping into a black escalade.
