What the Duchess of Cambridge might wear to the state banquet

As the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, prepares for her first ever state banquet on Oct. 20 the fashion world is speculating about what the stunning brunette will wear.

Kate will be joining her husband Prince William to greet President Xi Jinping of China and his wife Peng Liyuan at Buckingham Palace, and will be, no doubt, dressed to the nines for the important occasion. But which designer will she call on? And what style of dress will she go for? We've sifted through her favourite designers' collections to show you some of her possible options.

In the past, some of the mother-of-two’s most memorable gowns came courtesty of British designers Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen. Kate has made no secret of her affinity for both fashion labels, so she might embrace the tried and true for her first black tie event since welcoming her daughter, Princess Charlotte, in May.

In June 2011, Kate stole the show at the 10th Annual ARK Gala in London in a Jenny Packham pearlescent rose sequin creation; paired with a Prada clutch and pale pink L.K. Bennett sandals. A month later she turned heads again in a lavender Grecian-style gown by Alexander McQueen. And when she wasn’t dazzling in colourful-hues, Kate has won stylish marks dressed in black frocks (think velvet McQueen at the Sun Military Awards and lace Diane von Furstenberg at the Royal Variety Performance in 2014).
