Childrenswear brands loved by royal moms

The littlest royals are beyond cute—and so well dressed. These are the stores where the royal mums like the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Victoria of Sweden shop for their kids, and you might just be surprised that you shop there too. -- by Alyssa Ashton

Pepa & Co.
The Spanish children’s company Pepa & Co. has become one of the Duchess of Cambridge's favourite places to shop for her children. For Prince George’s third birthday photos, he looked rather nautical in a striped whale sweater and shorts from the brand. Princess Charlotte attended her first royal engagement—a party in Victoria, B.C.—in a smocked blue and red dress from the Spanish designer. Kate loves Pepa & Co’s designs so much, she had them make the bridesmaid and page boy outfits for her sister Pippa’s wedding.

Gap
When Princess Estelle first met her baby cousin Princess Leonore (L), the Swedish royal family took a photo to mark the adorable occasion. In the snap, the sweet princesses are seen twinning in matching white dresses from the Gap. Another royal fan of the Gap is down-to-earth mom Zara Tindall who tends to dress her daughter Mia (seen here with her aunt, Autumn Phillips) in affordable clothes—like this light pink sweater from the company.

Livly
Livly is the perfect brand for two of Sweden's lively little princesses. For a formal family portrait, Princess Estelle matched her mum, Princess Victoria, in a royal blue dress from the brand. Meanwhile, on her very first royal engagement, Princess Leonore (R) looked adorably prim in her blue and white dress.

Marie-Chantal Children
Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece is also a talented childrenswear designer. Her pieces are loved by royal moms around the world, including Princess Victoria of Sweden who dressed Estelle in this sweet jacquard coat to attend her cousin Prince Nicolas’s christening.
Victoria must have shared her love for Marie-Chantal with her sister Princess Madeleine, who picked out this patterned dress and matching bloomers for her daughter Leonore.

Doña Carmen
Where did Kate find the ruby red slippers Charlotte wore to her second Trooping the Colour festivities? They’re from the Spanish brand, Doña Carmen.
Charlotte also wore two pairs of Doña shoes in Canada—a blue pair for her arrival and, fittingly, a red pair, for when she bid farewell to the country. Kate also picked up a pair of red shorts for George, which he wore at the children’s party in Victoria and again when he waved goodbye to Canada.
Kate has been introduced to a variety of Spanish designers through her Palencia-born nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo.

Bonpoint
The French brand Bonpoint is known for its timeless and fashionable children’s clothes, which makes it popular with the royals. Princess Madeleine picked up a smocked grey dress with a ruffled collar for Leonore to wear to her brother’s christening (R). Princess Victoria must have liked Leonore’s dress because she bought it for Estelle in pink (L). Princess Mary dressed Josephine (M) in this floral dress from the brand for a family photocall.

Trotters
The Duchess of Cambridge is a big fan of Trotters’ Early Days shoes and dressed both George and Charlotte in the comfy footwear when they were learning to walk. Princess Madeleine and her family live in London, so she’s also become a fan of Trotters. At Prince Oscar’s christening, Leonore looked darling in a blue and white dress by the brand.

The Royal Closet
When you’re born into a royal family, you get access to the family jewels and a huge collection of preserved clothing! For example, Princess Estelle often wears dresses and jackets that once belonged to her mum and her aunt. To celebrate Princess Victoria’s birthday, Estelle wore a cream dress with pink flowers that was first worn decades earlier by Princess Madeleine.
Kate also mines the royal archives for outfits for her son. Prince George wore a light blue romper to his first appearance at Trooping the Colour in 2015. Prince William wore the same outfit to Trooping the Colour back in 1984!

H&M
Princess Victoria often wears H&M for both fancy and casual occasions, and while she’s shopping for herself she picks up a few pieces for Estelle (M). The little princess wore a white dress from H&M Conscious during a summer photoshoot with her brother Prince Oscar.
Victoria’s sister-in-law, Princess Sofia, dressed adorable Alexander (R) in a pair of brown boots from the Swedish brand for his first birthday photos (his shirt and coat are from another high-street favourite, Zara).
And the Queen's granddaughter Zara Tindall dressed rambunctious Mia in the brand’s blue dress with a lace trim for a day out at her mom's horse trials.

Petite Bateau
The French brand Petit Bateau is known for its use of Breton stripes, which is probably why Duchess Kate loves it so much. She dressed George in striped dungarees for his first birthday portrait.
Princess Sofia of Spain is also a fan and dressed her son Prince Alexander (R) in a grey sweater adorned with an anchor for a summer family portrait.

Rachel Riley
Rachel Riley is a high-end children’s store with classic designs that both Duchess Kate and Princess Mary love. Prince George has worn many outfits from the brand, including the sailboat dungarees he wore on a playdate in New Zealand (L) and the red and white smocked set he wore to his sister’s christening in 2015. For a photocall, Mary dressed her daughters in matching blue and white dresses, with Isabella proving that these frocks are made for twirling.

Amaia Kids
The Duchess of Cambridge always makes sure her kids are well accessorized. Princess Charlotte’s crowning glory at every public appearance is a tiny bow that always matches her outfit. Kate buys these bows (and Charlotte’s tights) from the brand, Amaia Kids. George’s signature knee socks are also from the British company.

Crocs
Even royal kids need casual wear that they can get messy in. For a day of mucking about, Savannah Phillips and Mia Tindall were both decked out in brightly coloured Crocs. Prince George has also been seen enjoying a royal runabout in a pair of navy blue shoes.

Nanos Moda
Queen Letizia has passed on her fashion-forward style to her beautiful daughters, Leonor and Sofia. The sisters are often pictured wear clothing from the Nanos Moda.
When they were younger, the girls loved to dress in matching outfits, but in different colours, like the brocade dresses they wore for their father’s coronation (R).
But as they’ve gotten older, the girls have started to show off their personal style, opting for unique pieces from the Spanish brand (as seen in the family's 2016 Christmas card).
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is also a fan of Nanos Moda and has dressed her three daughters in matching outfits from the brand.

Tartine + Chocolat
French brand Tartine et Chocolat is a favourite of Monaco’s Princess Charlene. For a Christmas photoshoot, the royal mom dressed her daughter Gabriella in a festive red dress from the brand. Sweden's Princess Victoria recently discovered Tartine and picked up a drop-waist dress for Estelle (R) to wear to Prince Alexander’s christening.

Phil Carrera
Royal kids often need a few formal pieces for fancy occasions like coronations. Phil Carrera designs high-end children’s wear, so he was the perfect choice to design the golden yellow dresses the Dutch princesses wore to their father’s investiture as king.
Princesses Isabella and Josephine of Denmark (R) wore matching tweed blue dresses by the Spanish brand for Queen Margrethe's 75th birthday celebrations.

Gymboree
Gymboree is a very popular children’s brand in North America—so it makes sense that Montreal-native Autumn Phillips shops there for her two daughters. Her youngest, Isla, looked ready to pony around at the horse trials in a pink and white shirt from the company. The shirt had an owl wearing a tiara on it— how fitting!
