Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has started her family's eight-day tour of India on smart sartorial footing. During a tour of the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad on Monday (Feb. 19), the 42-year-old was spotted wearing a vibrant yellow ensemble by famed Indian designer Anita Dongre - a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge.
While Sophie wore a sunny ensemble by the homegrown talent, the designer was also responsible for one of Kate's most elegant tour looks of 2016. While on tour in India with husband Prince William, she wore a customized, multicoloured gown by Anita to a cricket match and a tour of Mumbai.
Back then, Anita told The Telegraph that she admired the 36-year-old's style. "My clothes stand for a certain feminine elegance - I think she does the same.” The Mumbai-born designer offered similar sentiments on Monday when asked by Vogue India about Sophie's look.
“As elegant as she is, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau looked absolutely radiant in the yellow chanderi suit. The outfit she chose, showcased our signature embroidery—the traditional Rajasthani craft of Gotta Patti along with pearl zardozi," she said. "I am very happy to have had the opportunity to dress her and look forward to meeting her and having a heart-to-heart about relevant social and women’s issues given her active involvement with charities across the globe."
The Trudeau family is expected to have a busy eight days in India, and will be visiting several cities like Agra, Mumbai and Amritsar. Sophie made an impact on arrival in a red blouse and trouser set from Canadian brand Aritzia before travelling with her husband, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and their three children - 10-year-old, Xavier, nine-year-old Ella-Grace and three-year-old Hadrian - to Agra for a tour of the Taj Mahal. Here, she slipped into a breezy floral dress by Quebec designer Leinad Beaudet.
