Prince Harry and Meghan's invitations reveal the dress code for their royal wedding

By Leanne Bayley

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been stepping out in style in the walkup to their royal wedding on Saturday, May 19 - and now the couple has revealed what their A-list guests will be expected to wear on their big day. A first look at their beautiful wedding invites shows the style rules in the corner, which read: "Dress: Uniform, Mourning Coat or Lounge Suit,” and “Day Dress with Hat.”

Neil Hendy, the Creative Director of Coast, told HELLO!: "Overall the rules for day event dressing have really relaxed – long or short dress lengths are both acceptable, as are separates.

"The key is to remain appropriate – stay away from anything overtly glitzy otherwise you fall into the realms of an evening occasion. An example of this would be if you’re wearing a maxi dress then probably best it’s not a head to toe sequin maxi dress! But you can still have fun and show a playful side to your dressing through colour and print."

Suzannah Crabb, the founder and designer of Suzannah, also told us: "A day dress is a feminine elegant dress usually of knee length to ankle length in a daytime relevant fabric and cut. Not too revealing, not too shiny or sparkly."

For the women guests, finding the perfect day dress should be an easy find. Ultimately it just needs to be appropriate to wear during the day. Finding the perfect hat is the trickiest – we can’t wait to see which one Princess Beatrice of York chooses for the big day. We all know her choice for William and Kate’s wedding back in 2011 was a questionable one.

The wedding invites have been posted to 600 lucky guests, with a select 200 close friends invited to an after party at Frogmore House. The invites, posted on the Kensington Royal Twitter account, were produced by Barnard & Westwood.

Austen Kopley, managing director of the firm, said: "The wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle will be a truly special occasion and we are thrilled to be able to create equally special invitations for their guests.

"We are incredibly honoured to continue our longstanding work for The Royal Family, and to be involved in such an important moment for the couple and their family and friends."

The couple, who announced their engagement in November, are planning their own wedding celebration that “reflects the characters of the bride and groom.”
