It's a safe bet that when Meghan Markle wears your designs, they're going to sell out. Immediately. The "Meghan Effect" has struck many times before with brands like Smythe, Sentaler and Mackage, and this extends to the bride-to-be's accessories, too - including her favourite $765 Aquazzura 'Matilde' pumps. Meghan anchored her look with the strappy shoes during one of her greatest pinch-me moments to date, her engagement photocall with Prince Harry last November, and it was a surreal moment for the designer too. "It was a complete surprise. Meghan has been an Aquazzura girl for a number of years," designer Edgardo Osorio told Hello! at Holt Renfrew, a luxury retailer that sells his shoes in Canada. "She literally wore something that was one of her favourite shoes."
Meghan gravitates towards the shoes she's comfortable in, and the Colombian designer, who launched his line in 2012, couldn't be happier to have the 36-year-old as a fan. "I couldn't ask [for a] better ambassador for the brand," he said. "She's a beautiful girl, a wonderful human being." And it doesn't hurt that her aesthetic is perfectly in line with his designs – chic and elegant but with a healthy dose of sex appeal. "She’s a very sophisticated girl. [She likes] clean silhouettes, but then she always has a very sexy strappy shoe," he remarked. And as for her wedding day footwear? "It will probably be a stiletto and it will probably be very sexy," he shared hopefully.
After the frantic sell out of the cream Matilde pump, which nearly crashed their website, Edgardo has been gaining quite the royal following. Alessandra de Osma said "I do" to the Prince of Hanover in the designer's wares not once but twice! The Heart Breaker pump saw her through her civil ceremony in London last year, while Aquazzura's 'Lily of the Valley' sandals were her go-to for her religious nuptials in Peru. And it was at the bride's South American celebration that Princess Eugenie was spotted in the Matilde. "They know the shoes are comfortable," Edgardo explained. "You can dance all night!" Perhaps Eugenie will go with one of his stunning designs when she ties the knot with Jack Brooksbank in October.
It's plain to see that the award winning designer has a knack for dressing strong women, but there's one in particular he's just dying to outfit. Known for her monochromatic style, with never a thread amiss, Edgardo would love to dress Her Majesty. "I can't think of a better woman than the Queen of England. I'm completely obsessed with her. I just find her a fascinating woman and it would be wonderful if she wore my shoes," he gushed. "She would probably wear pumps to match her gloves, her bag and her hat."
The monochromatic lifestyle is a big commitment and hard work to keep up, he said. But if anyone can do it, it's the monarch. After all, "She is the Queen."
