Just days after the royal wedding, Meghan Markle is already easing into life as the new Duchess of Sussex – and she’s clearly bookmarked some pages in Duchess Kate’s royal style handbook! Meghan officially stepped out for the first time since saying “I do” to Prince Harry on Tuesday (May 22) at a garden party celebrating Prince Charles’s birthday looking a little bit more like her new sister-in-law.
The most obvious similarity rests in the designer of her pretty nude outfit: Goat. Kate has worn the British brand many times before, from the vibrant red dress she donned in 2017 for the Manchester Children’s Global Media Summit to the elegant navy coat she wore on a visit to Essex for the opening of a community centre as part of her patronage of Action to Addiction. Meghan opted for the partially sheer A-line Flavia dress, which she paired with nude Manolo Blahnik pumps. She also wore her hair in a decidedly Duchess of Cambridge style, trading her messy bun for a perfectly coiffed side bun at the nape of her neck.
Another notable similarity is the fact that Kate wore the same nude pink colour for her very own first outing as an official royal. She paired the pretty cap-sleeved dress with asymmetrical ruching at the waist with black accessories, the one difference being that the Duchess of Cambridge opted out of wearing pantyhose to meet Barack and Michelle Obama following her honeymoon, a style move very unlike the mother of three now. And speaking of weddings, the beautiful asymmetrical Philip Treacy hat that Meghan wore for Charles’s 70 th birthday party at Buckingham Palace was very similar to Kate’s slanted topper at Meghan and Harry’s nuptials, only without the floral elements.
Now that she’s officially part of the royal fold, Meghan is clearly picking up on the rules of royal style, from taming her locks to covering her legs. And she’s clearly got the perfect role model in her seasoned new sister!
