Evening was upon them, but Meghan Markle was a ray of sunshine as she and Prince Harry stepped out for a reception with young leaders from across the Commonwealth on Thursday (July 5). Clad in a yellow Brandon Maxwell midi dress, the Duchess of Sussex was all smiles as she and her husband chatted with young people - including those from countries they will visit on their tour this fall. The 36-year-old anchored her look with simple nude pumps and wore her tresses in a centre-parted bun.
Hosted at Marlborough House by The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, the highlight of the event was the 'Your Commonwealth' Youth Challenge, which saw attendees split into groups to envision their dreams for the future of the Commonwealth. This included youth representatives from Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, Australia and New Zealand, all countries the duke and duchess will visit in October on their first official tour.
As Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, Prince Harry gave a speech to the crowd. "My job as your ambassador is to listen and learn from you, to amplify your voices and bring your ideas to the attention of decision makers," he said as Meghan looked on proudly. The two held hands at the event, a show of affection that hasn't been common since their wedding in May. It's no wonder Prince Harry couldn't keep his eyes off his wife, who was positively radiant in the designer dress, which has already sold out at Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman. The crepe sheath number was priced at USD$523.
Meghan went jewellery-free at the upbeat event, letting her bright dress do the talking. This is the most vibrant item she's worn since joining 'the firm,' as her new royal uniform has tended to favour nudes, blush pinks and creams. She's also favoured buttons of late, from shirt dresses to tops and jackets (think Trooping the Colour), so this sleek and simple silhouette is a stunning new entry to her wardrobe.
Her next outing may well be a trip to Wimbledon ahead of her visit to Ireland with Prince Harry next week. Hello! has learned that the former Suits star, who attended the tournament in 2016, is likely to make several visits to cheer on best friend Serena Williams. We can't wait to see what she wears for her first trip to the Royal Box!
