Meghan Markle’s personal style, both before and after becoming the Duchess of Sussex, has always boasted her own personal flair – a sleek and modern aesthetic with a dash of Cali girl cool. She loves paying tribute to the countries she’s called home – from her native United States, to Canada while filming Suits and her new mainstay of England. Though her wardrobe is diverse, there is one designer she’s been partial to since saying “I do”: French fashion house Givenchy!
The first image of Meghan in her wedding gown is one royal watchers will hold close to their hearts forever. Her stunning tiara, simple makeup look and, of course, the timeless gown by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy will surely go down in sartorial history books. Ever since donning the dress in which she said “I do” to Prince Harry, she’s shown her allegiance to the brand.
For her Royal Ascot debut, Meghan donned their white shirt dress with floral appliques, which she paired look with a matching fascinator, cementing the luxury label's status as her first go-to brand (much like her sister-in-law Kate did with Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen). She also wore a Givenchy creation during her first solo day out with the Queen when the two visited Cheshire. Her look that day was absolutely perfect – a stunning cream caped dress, perfectly tailored to her slender frame.
Following closely at Givenchy’s heels in Meghan's roster of favoured designers is Stella McCartney. The former actress has worn the Brit’s designs three times since being publicly linked to Harry – once for her wedding reception, for which she slid into a stunning halter-neck gown , and again at the Queen’s birthday celebrations in April, where a beautiful deep-blue caped dress was the order of the hour. The third time she wore the designer since unofficially joining the Royal Family was for her second engagement of 2018, when she wrapped up in a black coat with a pretty ribbon belt for a day in Cardiff.
Though Meghan has to abide by certain style rules since joining ‘the firm,’ she remains one of the reigning champions in the royal fashion world. When she and Harry first came out as a couple, her style was quite laid back and she often wore ripped jeans and boyfriend-style shirts. But the 36-year-old has hung up her pantsuits and knee-high boots, trading them in for blush pink dresses and simple pumps.
With Givenchy’s couture collection having just shown at Paris Haute Couture week, there were definitely a few looks we could see on Meghan. With her first formal dinner likely to happen this year, she'll need look no further than one of these spectacular gowns. We can’t wait to see the duchess’s future Givenchy looks!
