Princess Eugenie's sunglasses call to mind another stylish royal

By Meaghan Wray

Over the past few months, Princess Eugenie has been making waves in the royal fashion world, from her edgy Roland Mouret number at the Serpentine Summer Party to her pretty pastel ensemble on Charlie van Straubenzee’s wedding day. To top off the latter look, the bride-to-be made a splash with a particular pair of sunglasses that called to mind the late Princess Diana’s penchant for elaborate accessories.

The 28-year-old arrived arm-in-arm with her handsome fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, wearing a gorgeous pastel-blue Whistles dress topped with a cream Topshop coat – but it was Eugenie’s Mr. Boho sunnies, as identified by Popsugar, that prove the Queen’s granddaughter a fashion force to be reckoned with! Their unique black plastic frames feature a white rim around the lens, and while the shape is different, her late aunt Diana wore a pair of white-rimmed shades while at the Cardiff Cricket Club in 1987, grabbing the attention of fashion fans just the same.

A couple years later, Diana wore another pair of white-rimmed sunglasses while watching camel racing in Abu Dhabi. Back in 1993, the late royal stepped out in polka dots to watch the Men’s Singles at Wimbledon and she accessorized with a pair of round-framed shades, similar in shape to Eugenie’s statement-making piece.

Despite Eugenie’s sci-fi glasses making her a style star to watch this weekend, the princess isn’t new to accessorizing in this way. While visiting New York City in 2015, she wore an amazing pair of round frames with blue lenses. A year later, she slipped on unique peach frames for the Royal Ascot.

The Duke and Duchess of York’s daughter is gearing up for her most impactful fashion moment yet - saying “I do” to Jack on Oct. 12 at St. George’s Chapel. While she may not be able to fit sunnies under her veil, her growing legion of fashion fans are surely beyond themselves with excitement to see whether the princess looks to past royalty for bridal inspiration or comes up with an ensemble all her own.
