Meghan Markle looks to this celebrity for style inspiration

While Meghan Markle is celebrated for her sartorial prowess, her classic-with-an-edge style sensibility makes us wonder who she looks to for fashion inspiration – and it turns out it’s a Hollywood star. The new Duchess of Sussex told Hello! Canada that she looks no further than fellow style icon Cate Blanchett.

“I absolutely love how Cate Blanchett dresses. I just think it’s so timeless, chic, elegant but also she takes some risks,” the Suits alum gushed in 2016. “She’s playful with it and I think that’s the biggest take-away from anything with fashion.” And Meghan takes this to heart! Despite adopting new wardrobe guidelines since officially joining the Royal Family in May, the former actress has also been known to add some colour – literally and figuratively – to her timeless wardrobe. The 37-year-old still finds ways to make her ensembles all her own, often with the help of Toronto stylist and BFF Jessica Mulroney .

As of late, the Ocean’s 8 star has been rocking a more androgynous silhouette – cue: the most amazing pantsuits ever! – but with a feminine twist, a style Meghan is often drawn to. Take, for example, their penchant for the black tuxedo. One of Meghan’s most classic looks to date was during an outing with Prince Harry for the Endeavour Fund Awards, where she wore an outfit that looked almost identical to a velvet tuxedo look Cate donned for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year.

The two also know how to make a neutral hue anything but boring, both giving style lessons in wearing olive green. Meghan stepped out in a beautiful Ralph Lauren getup for Prince Louis’ christening , while Cate wore an equally beautiful dress of the same colour for Harper’s Bazaar’s Woman of the Year Awards back in 2013.
