Here's why Duchess Kate will be dressed down on her return to royal duties

By Jessica Pollack

The Duchess of Cambridge is returning to royal duties after a maternity leave spent doting on baby Prince Louis and hanging out with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The royal will head to Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in London next Tuesday (Oct. 2) for an engagement focussed on children, one where fans will have the rare treat of seeing Kate's casual style. As she'll be getting down in the dirt with the kids, we can expect the duchess to be dressed down.

The outdoorsy outing includes a tour of the Paddington Recreation Ground, which includes an edible garden area, as well as taking part in green-fingered activities like planting. The organization uses these kinds of pursuits to nurture the physical and emotional wellbeing of inner-city children who don't have lots of access to green spaces.

We can definitely expect to see the duchess in pants and perhaps her favourite brown Penelope Chilvers boots, plus a cozy sweater and maybe a light jacket. The 36-year-old visited the Robin Hood Primary School last year, which boasts a similar gardening program, and paired a waxed jacket with jeans, a cable-knit sweater and her knee-high boots, looking chic as ever with her brown locks in soft waves, rosy cheeks and a pink lip.

At the time of her visit, the mother of three was pregnant with Prince Louis, who was born on April 23. She spoke fondly of her time in the garden with her own children, saying, "I've got such fond memories of being in the garden and being outside from my own childhood, and I'm sharing that with my own children, George and Charlotte, at the moment." She continued: "Hopefully you'll have lots of memories of your time here in the garden, looking for insects or planting bulbs. And I really hope you remember these special times for the rest of your lives."

The mother of three's return from maternity leave, which she started in March, kicks off a busy fall schedule that includes a state banquet when King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands come to town and, of course, Princess Eugenie's highly anticipated royal wedding.
