Duchess Kate has long been celebrated for her savvy at recycling pieces from her wardrobe, and it seems that some have been staple for more than a decade! The mother of three made her return to royal duty on Tuesday (Oct. 2) with a visit to the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in London, where she participated in green-fingered activities with schoolchildren. To see her through the hands-on day out, she slipped on her favourite brown leather Penelope Chilvers boots, which Kate has been wearing for at least 14 years.
The 36-year-old wore the knee-high footwear with an olive-green ensemble featuring a simple jacket, cozy sweater and motorcycle jeans with ribbed knees. She looked comfortable and excited to be planting pea seeds with the children, her hair freshly blown out in soft waves with highlights framing her face and natural makeup. Last year, Kate went out on a similar visit to the Robin Hood Primary School when she was pregnant with Prince Louis, wearing a similarly dressed-down outfit with the same brown boots.
The rugged $800 boots have long been a favourite of the sensible duchess, seeing her through recent tours and engagements, like her hike to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest monastery, during her 2016 tour of Bhutan with Prince William. They were also a staple for fun outings years back, like the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace in 2004 and the Gatcombe Park Festival in 2007.
It's no wonder Kate is such a fan of the Penelope Chilvers design, which is durable enough to hold up to any conditions but also sleek enough to wear in the public eye. According to the label's website, the luxe Penelope Chilvers Long Tassel Boots are made from Spanish vegetable-dyed leather with a Goodyear Welted Commando rubber sole. They feature a "more feminine fit with a scalloped detail at the zip panel and a leather tassel on the zip pull," details well-suited to the royal's feminine aesthetic.
Fans are thrilled to have Prince William's wife back in the spotlight after six months spent doting on her three children, though not many engagements are on the calendar as of yet. She'll be making a decidedly more dressy outing on Oct. 12 for Princess Eugenie's royal wedding, followed by appearances during the state visit of Netherlands' King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima at the end of October.
