Meghan Markle's most exciting accessory while kicking off her royal tour in Sydney was her budding baby bump, but she also wore two very special accessories: butterfly earrings and a bangle bracelet belonging to her Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana. The late royal also famously went to Australia and New Zealand on her first official tour in 1983, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are likely feeling especially close to her as they announced their pregnancy just hours before their first engagement.
It's likely that the earrings were gifted to Meghan, 37, as they prepare to embark on their greatest adventure: parenthood! Prince Harry, 34, was beaming in his navy suit as the couple stepped out at Admiralty House in Sydney for an official welcome ceremony, their first engagement since announcing their news. The duchess is believed to be 12 weeks along.
Meghan paired the jewel-encrusted earrings with her first official maternity look – the white "Blessed" dress by Aussie designer Karen Gee and a pair of nude suede pumps. She topped the ensemble with a trench coat as they later met koalas and their joeys at Taronga Zoo. She also wore one of Diana's yellow gold bracelets with two black stones, paying a touching tribute to the late princess, who would have been an incredible grandmother.
The former actress already owns another piece from Diana's collection, the stunning emerald-cut aquamarine ring that she wore to her evening wedding reception with her gorgeous Stella McCartney gown. The duke gave the piece to his new wife as a wedding gift. In fact, Princes William and Harry were given their mother's jewellery collection as instructed in a letter written by their late mother. "I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it."
Fans were expecting a pregnancy announcement any day as the duchess has been showing some telltale signs in the past few months. But her loose-fitting Givenchy coat dress at Princess Eugenie's royal wedding on Friday (Oct. 12) really raised eyebrows before the couple arrived in Sydney, where Meghan carried two binders of notes in front of her stomach.
The couple shared the news between arriving and embarking on their first day of engagements, where they received their very first baby gifts from Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife Lady Cosgrove - a tiny pair of Ugg boots and a stuffed kangaroo! With 76 engagements spread over 16 days, the proud parents-to-be are sure to receive plenty more presents for their bundle of joy!
