The Duchess of Sussex is known for many things, like her passion for women’s rights, her former TV role as Rachel Zane on the paralegal show Suits and for pushing the boundaries of how royal women are expected to dress. But few were expecting her to wear a summer dress with a daring, thigh-high slit when she and Prince Harry stepped out for a walkabout on Fraser Island . But as it turns out, she isn’t the only royal who’s shown a little (or a lot of) leg!
The duchess wore a weather-appropriate striped summer dress by Reformation, which boasted a very high slit on the left side and showed off her perfect little baby bump with a tie at the waist. It wasn’t necessarily what her admirers expected of the newly minted royal – typically, women of the Royal Family opt for more covered-up looks, especially when walking and greeting fans in a windy climate. But times are changing now more than ever, and it doesn’t seem like her outfit has ruffled any royal feathers – Kensington Palace even shared a sweet photo of Meghan with the island’s oldest resident on their Instagram!

Thank you to everyone at Kingfisher Bay Resort Jetty on Fraser Island that came out to welcome The Duke and Duchess of Sussex today! Their Royal Highnesses were greeted at the Jetty by the Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, before they met the locals by the beach. #RoyalVisitAustralia #Australia #FraserIsland
All eyes are on the 37-year-old on her first-ever overseas royal tour, but she’s not alone – there are a couple of other British royals who have worn a similar style! Though the Duchess of Cambridge typically likes to keep her legs and shoulders mostly covered, she’s been known to rock a slit every now and then – like the Self-Portrait gown she wore to the UK premiere of A Street Cat Named Bob , the Roland Mouret design she wore to an event at Thirty Club in 2012, as well as the emerald green Alexander McQueen number she donned for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Fashion maven Princess Beatrice , who showed off her sartorial savvy at this year’s Met Gala , dazzled in a high-slit tuxedo dress back in 2015 during the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty gala at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
For the first week on royal tour, Duchess Meghan has kept her looks relatively subdued but wholeheartedly stylish. From her casual Serena Williams brand boyfriend blazer and Outland Denim jeans to her chic Stella McCartney dress for the Invictus Games opening ceremony and show-stopping Fijian Blue caped gown at their first state dinner, the 37-year-old is always has royal fashion fanatics in fits of excitement. And while she typically adheres to the general royal protocol of dress, we’re willing to bet she’ll always have a rule-bending outfit up her sleeve.
