Old habits die hard, and the Duchess of Cambridge is the queen of breathing new life into her favourite past outfits – but we definitely didn’t see this instance of royal recycling coming. Prince William, Kate and their kids – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – released their charmingly casual 2018 Christmas card photo on Friday (Dec. 14), and Kate’s outfit looks almost identical to their snap from three years ago.
Donning a pair of casual blue jeans, a beige sweater and a blue-and-white button-up shirt, the duchess beams as she holds her adorable new baby boy, Prince Louis, who also shows off his winning smile in the newly released photo. And a trip down memory lane to the then-family of four’s 2015 card reveals what appears to be the exact same ensemble. While her hairstyle was different and her shoes in the latest snap aren’t visible, it certainly looks as though she’s wearing a similar sweater, top and pants!
Charlotte and George, on the other hand, look adorably grown up in this year’s festive shot, and rock the cutest new outfits. The three-year-old princess looks sweet as can be in a blue sweater and denim skirt, while George – in an energetic stance! – wears grey jeans, a green sweater and rubber boots.
Whether intentional or not, the style choice certainly points to the duchess’s timeless and consistent fashion sense! Earlier this year, Kate recycled a variety of outfits, from her go-to designer Jenny Packham’s jewel-toned lace gown, which she wore to the Tusk Awards gala, to the green Catherine Walker coat that she donned on St. Patrick’s Day and Remembrance Day this year. She also gave new life to her berry-hued Paule Ka suit for the third time while stepping out for a visit to University College London in November.
