Royal style of the month – January 2019

New year, new royal fashion! Though 2019 is just getting started, it's setting up to be a very fashionable month. From Duchess Kate's unofficial first appearance of the year to Duchess Meghan's stylish visit to Smart Works and Queen Letizia's radiant monochromatic red ensemble, you won't want to look anywhere else for your royal style inspiration.

On Feb. 1, the Duchess of Sussex bundled up for the cold for a visit to Bristol! She dazzled in an elegant black coat by London-based designer William Vintage and an Oscar de la Renta belted printed silk-chiffon dress. Her boots, by Sarah Flint, were the ultimate accessory to bring some colour to the blustery day. She held a green bespoke Ralph Lauren clutch to match, keeping her long raven locks by her shoulders in pretty waves – a change from yesterday's knot bun for a visit to the University of London for a meeting with the Association for Commonwealth Universities.
The pregnant royal's makeup look was simple and refined – her natural beauty shining through – with a simple swipe of pink lipstick and subtle smoky eye. Meghan also wore her Pippa Small ‘Herkimer’ Diamond Earrings.

The academic-minded royal was the picture of elegance in an all-black ensemble for a meeting with the Association of Commonwealth Universities on Jan. 31.
The pregnant duchess arrived to cheers from her adoring fans! She looked no further than her wedding gown designer Givenchy, recycling her dark coat by the fashion house which she wore for her first Remembrance Sunday service as a royal. She appeared to be wearing a floaty black dress underneath the piece, anchoring the look with a pair of beige suede heels and styling her dark hair up in a top knot. As for makeup, the 37-year-old let her natural beauty shine through with minimal products – a nude lip and a simple smoky eye. She appeared to be wearing her 'Midi Knockout' earrings by Canadian jewellery designer Dean Davidson.

Duchess Meghan's busy week has kicked off with a beautiful visit to one of her cherished patronages, the National Theatre on Jan. 30 – and she was an absolute vision in cream in a special pair of recycled pumps!
Meghan was the picture of elegance while arriving at the theatre, dazzling in head-to-toe cream. She paired a V-neck Brandon Maxwell dress with a blazer of the same hue by the American designer, accessorizing with a small Carolina Herrera 'Insignia' clutch and a simple silver ring on her her pointer finger, and wearing her brunette locks in a chic bun. Many may recognize the anchor of her outfit to be the Aquazzura cross-cross suede pumps she wore for her official engagement announcement on Nov. 27, 2017. As for her makeup look, the pregnant royal kept it simple with bronzed and glowing cheeks, a subtle smoky eye and a swipe of pink across her lips.

For a trip to Dundee, Scotland on Jan. 29, the Duchess of Cambridge recycled an old favourite – her beautiful tartan Alexander McQueen coat dress! The royal accessorized with with a sweet green by MANU Atelier and anchored the look with her go-to black suede Tod's pumps. Keeping her warm that day was an unidentified green scarf and black gloves by Cornelia James.

On Jan. 24, Queen Letizia looked cool as ever in a checked black-and-white blouse, black cigarette trousers and two-toned pumps at Zarzuela Palace.

On Jan. 23, Queen Letizia helped open the 39th edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid. She looked beautiful in her Massimo Dutti silk blouse and the pointed checked wool skirt by the same designer. But the talk of the town were her incredible criss-cross pumps by Magrit.

In true duchess form, not a style detail was amiss on Jan. 22! The sun shined down on Kate, who dazzled in a bottle-green dress by one of her favourite labels, Beulah London. She paired the look with richly textured accessories – like a crocodile-inspired belt, olive-green suede pumps and a matching envelope clutch.

The King and Queen of Spain hosted the annual Diplomatic Corps reception at the palace on Jan. 22 – and Queen Letizia didn't disappoint when it came to her style! She dazzled in a silk 'Blusil' blouse by Hugo Boss and a beautiful maroon full-length skirt. She anchored the look with Uterqüe curved heels.

For a hearing at the palace on Jan. 18, the Spanish queen was the picture of chic in a black sweater and snakeskin-print skirt, accessorizing with a Zara snakeskin belt and her 'Francesca' black over-the-knee boots by her go-to footwear designer, Magrit.

Queen Letizia made the sharpest businesswoman while attending a FEDER (Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases) meeting in Madrid on Jan. 17. She looked ready to work in an all-black ensemble, anchored with chic patent leather heels and an oversized clutch.

Hot on the heels of her second patronage visit on Wednesday (Jan. 16), Meghan went home for a quick outfit change before joining her husband, Prince Harry, for a performance of Cirque du Soleil's Totem.
The Duchess of Sussex was a vision at the glitzy affair in a $7,400 design by the French designer, a good friend who has dressed her on many occasions. The navy boatneck "Sarandon" dress, with its long sleeves and knee-high slit, perfectly hugged Meghan's growing baby bump as she met Cirque officials and made her way into Royal Albert Hall.
She carried a Givenchy clutch, wore a bracelet that belonged to Princess Diana and anchored the look with what appear to be Stuart Weitzman's black Nudist sandals. The royal wore her shiny locks in a sleek bun and amped up her makeup look from earlier with a bold berry lip. Prince Harry looked perfectly dapper by her side in a navy suit.

Duchess Meghan is wasting no time getting to know the organizations and their benefactors – and on Jan. 16's visit to Mayhew, the animal lover definitely wore her heart on her H&M sleeve! Looking perfectly chic in monochrome cream, the pregnant royal showed off her connection to her canine companions as she mingled with dogs and cats and learned about the charity's work.
She perfectly mixed high- and low-end pieces to create the ultimate maternity look. Covering her baby bump in H&M's bump-hugging Mama Fine-Knit Dress, she accessorized with a pair of sling-back Manolo Blahnik 'Allura 105' pumps, an Emporio Armani cream cashmere coat and her Stella McCartney Falabella Reversible tote, which is made from vegan leather.

It was a colourful outing, indeed! Duchess Kate looked chic as ever for a visit to the costume department at the Royal Opera House on Wednesday (Jan. 15). The mother of three dazzled in a recycled purple Oscar de la Renta dress for her very artsy engagement.
The royal traded the casual ensemble she wore the day prior at King Henry's Garden Walk for the pretty purple dress with peplum detailing, a number she previously wore in February 2017 for a visit to the UK Guild of Health Writers conference. The duchess debuted a new pair of patent Rupert Sanderson pumps with gold buckles, which she wore with thick black tights, and toted her Aspinal of London Midi Mayfair bag, which retails for just under $1000. Kate wore her hair in structured waves and a smoky eye with nude lipstick.

There's no denying Crown Princess Victoria's love for the outdoors! She looked perfectly casual in black jeans, matching black boots, a smart peacoat and a blue-striped collard shirt to visit Sofiero Castle Park on Jan. 16.

Never one to miss a detail, Duchess Kate had the perfect accent for her dressed-down ensemble on Jan. 15. The mother of three looked radiant as ever while making her first official appearance of 2019 with a visit to King Henry's Walk Garden in Islington.
The nature-themed Lauren Plain Leaf Earrings are by one of her favourite jewellers, Kiki McDonough, and are yellow gold studded with tiny diamonds (CA$2,400). Kate also wore a Dubarry Bracken tweed jacket with a high collar, a maroon turtleneck sweater and her favourite olive green skinny jeans.
The 37-year-old, who celebrated her birthday with a friend-filled lunch last week, debuted a new pair of hiking boots for the outdoorsy engagement - a brown suede design courtesy of See by Chloe with a chunky sole and small stacked heel. She finished the look with an extra bouncy blowout and a particularly natural face, pairing a rosy cheek with a toned-down eye and the palest pink lip.

Meghan showed her Canadian pride by pairing a red SENTALER coat with a purple dress from Babaton by Aritzia. She anchored the colourful look, which carried her through a series of engagements in Birkenhead, with red suede Stuart Weitzman pumps and toted a trendy Gabriela Hearst bag. The pregnant royal affectionately cradled her baby bump as she and Prince Harry greeted fans and helped to open a charity market.

Duchess Meghan paid her first visit of the year to Smart Works – one of four patronages given to her – on Jan. 10 to help style women looking for employment. Fans went wild at getting another glimpse of the mom-to-be's growing baby bump in a fitted Hatch maternity dress, which she paired with a camel Oscar de la Renta swing coat and chic cow-print Gianvito Rossi pumps with clear plastic sides. She accessorized with the Vanity Box Bag by Victoria Beckham, keeping her hair up in her trademark bun.

Queen Letizia looked radiant in red for the National Sports Awards in Madrid on Jan. 10! The queen of monochrome dazzled in a recycled Carolina Herrera stretch-wool peplum dress and carried the 'Maysa' bag by the designer, anchoring the look with her go-to Marit 'Liza' pumps in custom red suede. Dangling from her ears were her TOUS gold long shell earrings to seal the deal on this winning outfit.

Zara Tindall looked perfectly casual on the beach while attending the 2019 Magic Millions official draw event on Jan. 8. She looked wonderful in an all-white ensemble – crisp shoes, slim-fit white denim and a sleeveless blouse. Paired with a chic set of sunnies, the royal posed alongside Billy Slater and his mount.

We can't get enough of this velvet glam! The Queen of Spain joined her husband for their first public engagement of the New Year on Jan. 6. Their majesties attended the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar, for which Letizia stunned in a midnight blue velvet gown, keeping her arms warm in a navy Emporio Armani metallic-tweed jacket. She carried a slim navy blue clutch, which perfectly matched the navy pumps peeking out from under her dress.
