The Duchess of Cambridge followed up a fun-filled morning at the Henry Fawcett Children's Centre with a glitzy outing at one of her patronages, the National Portrait Gallery! After her gorgeous trouser and blouse combo on March 12, the mom-to-three turned heads that same evening in a gown by one of her favourite designers, Alexander McQueen.
The duchess looked stunning in the patterned, off-the-shoulder dress, which she first wore at the 2017 BAFTAs, where she was accompanied by Prince William. But there was a subtle alteration to the outfit this time, which will interest keen royal watchers. Kate had capped sleeves added to the dress, which features a Bardot neckline, bodice and full-length skirt with ribbon detailing. She accessorized the outfit with pink morganite and diamond earrings by Kiki McDonough and a black Prada clutch.
Kate also wore her hair down in a blowout – another change from 2017, when she had her long tresses up. She also rounded off her look with simple makeup, making her look every bit the classic beauty she is.
This was the duchess's third time attending the National Portrait Gallery gala. She is a patron of the art gallery, which showcases works of art depicting important figures in British history. All the funds from this year's gala will go directly to supporting the gallery's's work. Princess Beatrice, David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Bianca Jagger were also in attendance.
Earlier that day, the duchess chose an outfit that is quite rare for her – a pair of trousers by British brand Jigsaw, with a purple pussybow blouse by one of her go-to labels, Gucci. While Kate typically opts for dresses and skirts, the royal made a good call opting for pants, as she was able to comfortably enjoy some adorable playtime with toddlers at Lambeth Early Action Partnership (LEAP) and the Parent and Infant Relationship Service (PAIRS).
For accessories, the royal mom carried a small Aspinal bag and anchored her look with black suede pumps. Eagle-eyed royal watchers may have noticed the gorgeous earrings Kate chose for the occasion. The pair of dainty jewels – her Links of London Hope Egg Earrings – haven't made an appearance since 2012! As always, her brunette hair was styled perfectly in her signature bouncy curls, and her hands only decorated with her jaw-dropping engagement ring from Prince William in 2010.
