The annual Royal Maundy ceremony was the perfect opportunity for some granddaughter-grandmother bonding time! Both looked the pictures of spring! Her Majesty dazzled in her classic bright colours, wearing a yellow coat and matching hat, while Eugenie looked no further than one of her favourite Canadian brands, Erdem. She chose the designer’s ‘Bernette’ dress, which was, according to Net-a-Porter, inspired by the monarch’s style in the 1950s – a sweet nod to her darling grandma.

The princess is the queen of recycling fashion, having most recently worn the blue-and-white high-neck number to an environmental movie premiere last month. Before that, she donned the dress for the 2018 Royal Ascot, where she was joined by her sister, Princess Beatrice, and other senior members of the Royal Family.

Every year, Queen Elizabeth II visits a different cathedral in the UK. There, she hands out commemorative coins (80 pence worth of Maundy money, which is equivalent to about $1.40) to pensioners. The amount represents the number of years she’s lived, so it can be assumed she handed out 93 this year. The occasion takes place each year on the Thursday before Easter Sunday, which is the day when Christians mark Jesus’s Last Supper. In 2018, the celebration also marked women getting the right to vote. In the past, the Queen has been joined by her husband, Prince Philip.
