The special meaning behind Duchess Meghan’s royal baby debut necklace

By Meaghan Wray

It’s all in the details, and not a detail goes amiss when it comes to the Duchess of Sussex’s fashion choices. Meghan looked to new designer Grace Wales Bonner to debut her newborn baby alongside Prince Harry on Wednesday (May 8). A dainty necklace hanging around her neck held a lot more significance than size.

The piece of jewellery was crafted by Jennifer Meyer – the same designer who created the “mummy” necklace Meghan was spotted wearing while leaving The Mark Hotel in New York City after her American baby shower. The 3 Turquoise Mini Bezel Dangle Necklace has a few significances. The most obvious is that turquoise is one of the six gem stones representing Taurus, her newborn baby's zodiac sign. That the necklace has three stones could represent the Sussexes now being a beautiful family of three.

The duchess has often paid meaningful tributes with jewels. The former actress wore Princess Diana's aquamarine ring at her wedding reception with Harry at Frogmore House in May 2018. She’s also worn many other pieces passed down to her through Harry, like her gold butterfly earrings, the gold bracelet she wore to see Cirque du Soleil, and, of course, her engagement ring that features diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
