Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry arrived at Cape Town, South Africa’s Monwabisi Beach for their first two engagements on Sept. 24, and they both looked relaxed and happy. But Meghan’s look surprised royal watchers, since the Duchess of Sussex was wearing a jean jacket! No royal has ever done so at an official engagement before!
Meghan paired her Madewell denim jacket with black jeans – denim on denim, Canadians! – along with a crisp white shirt, brown flats, a brown tote and sunglasses, just in case she needed to protect her eyes from the rays. She arrived beaming, looking well-rested after the long journey she, Harry and Archie had had the day before.
Meghan and Harry were visiting the beach to hear about the work done by an NGO called Waves for Change. The organization works with vulnerable children and youth in Cape Town and beyond, providing them with “surf mentors” who use surfing to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
They also dropped in to see The Lunchbox Fund, which is run out of the Waves for Change kitchen. It provides 30,000 meals each day for Waves for Change programs and schools in South African townships and rural areas. It was also one of four charities to benefit from donations made by royals fans in lieu of gifts after Archie was born.
This is the fourth look Meghan has worn so far in South Africa. When she got off the plane carrying Archie on Sept. 23, she was wearing white jeans, a grey coat and Everlane shoes. There was a swift outfit change before her first engagement with Harry, when she arrived at an initiative run by The Justice Desk wearing a gorgeous black-and-white Mayamiko Dalitso dress with DNA strands and leopard-print-like patterns and black Castañer wedges.
But that wasn’t all! When she and Harry visited the District 6 Museum and Homecoming Centre, Meghan brought out the blue Veronica Beard dress we saw her wear on tour in Tonga last year.
Meghan and Harry have five engagements on their schedule for Sept. 24, so expect many more outfit changes!
