We’ve got the rundown on Toronto’s hotspots where different types of stars can go to eat, drink, shop and sleep (and where you might want to go to spot them!).
LUX HIPSTER (Think: Ryan Gosling)
Dining: Black Hoof
TIFF regulars like Ryan avoid tourist traps. He would devour the charcuterie boards at Anthony Bourdain-approved Black Hoof on Dundas West.
Drinking: Cherry Cola’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Cabaret Lounge
The publicity-shy star has partied off the festival beaten path at this playful Bathurst hot spot, as has Bill Murray.
Shopping: Nomad (pictured above, photo: Kayla Chobotiuk)
Ryan said doing press means "more occasions to wear suits." This Queen West staple stocks stylish threads for the trend-setting leading man.
Sleeping: Shangri-La Hotel
Located down the street from TIFF HQ, this year-old luxury hotel is both central and sumptuous, the perfect base for busy actors promoting several films at a time.
THE LOCAL (Think: Rachel McAdams)
Dining: Harbord Room (pictured above)
As gourmet as it is discreet, this Annex eatery offers respite to solitude-seeking stars like Sarah Polley.
Drinking: Sweaty Betty’s
This local fave makes a big splash with laid-back VIPs looking for a cold beer and a good time. Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page have wet their whistles here.
Shopping: Jonathan + Olivia
Residents like Rachel flock to this edgy designer mecca on the Ossington strip to find brands from Alexander Wang to Rag & Bone.
Sleeping: Her home in the Annex
The actress owns a home int he leafy Annex area.
GALA GIRL (Think: Nicole Kidman, photo: Getty Images)
The star of Grace of Monaco could hold court at this Italian King West haunt, where regulars include Jamie Oliver.
Drinking: Bloke & 4th
It’s where elegance and sophistication intersect. The party for Nicole’s film The Paperboy was held here last year.
Shopping: Holt Renfrew
Downtown may be festival-central these days, but the Holts store in tony Yorkville is still the place where A-listers seek out the perfect designer party outfit or blow off some steam shopping for high-end shoes.
Sleeping: Hazelton Hotel
For the likes of Ben Affleck, Blake Lively and Oprah Winfrey, it pays to stay here. In 2011, the swanky Yorkville hotel gave gift bags to every TIFF guest.
THE BACHELOR (Think: Robert Pattinson)
A gourmet meat-and-potatoes meal is sure to start a guys’ night out right. The steak with red wine grape compote is Javier Bardem’s top pick.
Drinking: Soho House
The strict no-photo policy at this private club will ensure no one’s antics make headlines.
Look out, Queen West! The city’s east side is fast becoming a fashion fixture. We’re betting Robert, now in town filming Maps to the Stars, will navigate his way here.
Sleeping: Ritz-Carlton (pictured above)
Call it man’s best friend! We’ve spotted George Clooney, Bradley Cooper and Kiefer Sutherland at this hotel located in the heart of the entertainment district.
RISING STAR (Think: Sarah Gadon)
Down-to-earth young talents forgo the fuss of five-star eateries for rowdy spots like this sausage hall with cool tunes.
Drinking: Cocktail Parlour at Storys (pictured above)
This brand new bar is on its way up in the world. The vintage-inspired watering hole boasts 66 cocktails.
Shopping: White Space at Hudson’s Bay
Perfect for the ingenue without an A-list budget, this store-within-a-store offers designer alternatives to couture such as Elizabeth and James.
Sleeping: Thompson Hotel
James Franco and Carey Mulligan have been spotted here but we bet the young Hollywood set don’t do much sleeping – the hotel boasts a famous rooftop patio – with pool – and a 24-hour diner.
