‘Twas the night before TIFF, when all through Toronto – vodka cocktails were stirring!
Here’s what you may have missed on the pre-festival party circuit on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
PRODUCERS BALL: Hosted at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), the carnival-themed Producers Ball kept the spirit of Toronto’s CNE alive – with a glamorous twist, naturally.
Canada’s Most Beautiful Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, were ringmasters at the circus-inspired bash, which featured cotton candy cocktails, Steamwhistle beer and mouthwatering chicken wings – TIFF dieters, don’t try this at home!
The event, which celebrates Canada’s media production talent, drew industry heavyweights like Tracy Moore, Amanda Brugel, Kristin Booth and David Sutcliffe, as well as newlywed Jessi Cruickshank, who wowed in a high-waisted pant and crop-top combination (marriage definitely becomes her).

Hello! Canada’s own Editor-In-Chief, Alison Eastwood, was loving the Twitter Mirror selfie station. Thankfully, the gift bags included possibly the most practical TIFF swag ever, a portable iPhone charger, to keep revelers selfie-ready for the next fête.
CANADIAN FILMMAKER PARTY: After nine years on the TIFF party circuit, the annual Canadian Filmmaker Party at the Spoke Club knows how to kick off the festival with a bang.
The bash has become so big that it boasted three hosts this year – handsome David Alpy, who wore a smart, pinstriped suit with a colourful bow tie; Tatiana Maslany, who stunned in a floral dress and a black blazer; and Tanya Kim, dazzling in a black-and-gold embroidered dress.

Guests snacked on tortillas with smoked salmon and – this being a Canadian event – also helped themselves to mini poutines. For dessert, puppy-shaped cake pops were on display, courtesy of Hush Puppies, along with Skyy vodka cocktails and Mill Street Organic brew.
Also in attendance? Jason Priestly, Jian Ghomeshi, Katie Boland and Robert Lantos – to name just a few!
AL PACINO PRE-TIFF GALA: Before sneaking off for a discreet dinner at Opus restaurant with his beautiful 35-year-old girlfriend, Lucila Sola, Al Pacino made his way to the third annual pre-TIFF gala at the TIFF Lightbox on King for a party being held in his honour.
There, Mr. Pacino, 74, partook in a live chat with George Stroumboulopoulos, admitting that he always knew he would be a big star, despite initial resistance from the studio in his casting Godfather. (“Are you crazy? That little guy?”)
After the interview, the party began in earnest, where our resident celebrity columnist Shinan Govanispotted Canadian MVPs like Sandra Oh, Don McKellar and Kelly Rowan mingling with the screen legend.
