As a who's who of famous faces descended on the Four Seasons Toronto on the night before TIFF's official start for the AMBI Gala, a heady excitement filled the air. James Franco, Heidi Klum, Prince Albert of Monaco, Martin Short and the motown queen herself, Diana Ross, would all be in attendance, among others.
"I met her many years ago. She is a real queen, she is royalty," Paul Sorvino told Hello! of Diana.
Of introducing emcee Martin, The Steps star Vinay Virmani couldn't contain his excitement, telling Hello! that he's "done so much for comedy, so much for Canada and he's someone that we all look up to." Naturally, the comedian has the audience in stitches before Prince Albert took the stage on a more serious note. Making an impassioned plea around the cause of the evening, climate change, the Monegasque royal shared the fact that this year was the hottest July during the hottest year ever recorded.
Actor Danny Trejo was thrilled to meet the royal, joking to Hello! that "hopefully he'll invite me to lunch!"
Then came the moment the well-heeled crowd had all been waiting for: a rare performance by Diana Ross, who belted "Stop In The Name Of Love" clad in a green lamé, shoulder-baring dress with billowing cape and her signature locks wild and free. (Fun fact: The celebrated singer has roots in Windsor, Ontario, where she won the talent competition that led to her contract with Motown Records!)

Over at the Trump hotel, a fashionable crowd was nibbling oysters and drinking martinis up in the sky, mesmerized by a breathtaking sunset courtesy of L'Oreal and the penthouse suite's sweeping views.
Shawn Hook dipped his toes in the TIFF waters for the first time as the Canadian musician serenaded VIPs at the piano, but the most exciting moment came when the cosmetic giant's most recent ambassador, supermodel Karlie Kloss, took to the stage to give a heartfelt speech about female empowerment and her excitement to be working with the brand.
Clad in a ribbed sweater dress with metallic chain-link detailing and black booties, NYU's newest student then engaged in a fun Q&A, where she chatted about childhood insecurities and over-plucking her brows way back when. She then mingled through the crowd and happily posed for selfies with guests.
The sweet kiss goodnight? Karlie's Kookies, of course!
