Drink like the stars: 4 must-try TIFF cocktail recipes

With the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) officially underway, stars like Sandra Bullock, Jake Gyllenhaal, David Oyelowo, Salma Hayek and Natalie Portman will be hitting red carpets around the city - and enjoying a host of after-parties and annual festivities.

We turned to some of the festival's most celebrated hot spots - and Our Brand Is Crisis producer George Clooney - for a selection of celebrity-worthy tipples you can make at home before hitting the town to spot some A-listers (with help from our Map to the Stars, of course!).

East Thirty-Six's Golden Era Cocktail
Themed on TIFF's milestone 40th anniversary, this bourbon-based bevy from one of the city's craft cocktail havens is for those who like a stiff drink.

- 1 oz. bourbon
- 1/2 oz. Amaro Montenegro
- 1/2 oz. white vermouth
- Dash of bitters
- Lemon twist

In a lowball glass (Old Fashioned glass), pour all ingredients over ice and stir. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Casamigos Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita
Straight from TIFF attendee George Clooney's tequila company, Casamigos, this tangy take on a Mexican classic is sure to help cook up a great night.

- 1 1/2 parts Casamigos Blanco tequila
- 3/4 parts fresh lime juice
- 1/3 part orange liqueur
- 1/3 part simple syrup
- 3 cucumber wheels
- 1 jalapeno slice

Muddle cucumber, jalapeño, lime juice and simple syrup. Combine all ingredients iced mixing glass. Shake vigorously for 10 count. Fine strain all contents into a rocks glass with or without salted rim. Garnish with cucumber and jalapeño slice.

GREY GOOSE Leading Lady
Each year at TIFF, GREY GOOSE takes over Soho House Toronto to serve festival-themed sippers to a slew of celebrities.

- 2 parts GREY GOOSE vodka
- 3/4 part fresh lime juice
- 1/2 part homemade chamomile syrup
- Lime zest spiral to garnish

Add ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake and double strain into a coupe and garnish with lime spiral. Homemade chamomile syrup: Boil 1 cup of water and stir in 1 cup of sugar while still hot. Add chamomile tea bag (premium leaf), make a strong brew and cool.

Thompson Toronto's Festival '76
Home to many a festival party on the rooftop and some celebrity spotting in the hotel's various restaurants, this elegant number pays tribute to 40 years of TIFF, which first launched in 1976 as the 'Festival of Festivals.'

- 3/4 oz. Bombay East Gin
- 1/4 oz. St. Germaine Elderflower Liqueur
- 3/4 oz. chamomile citrus tea syrup
- 1/2 oz. lemon juice
- Top with Moet champagne
- Grapefruit zest for garnish

Add all ingredients, except the champagne, into a mixing tin. Fill with ice and shake. Double strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne and garnish with grapefruit zest.
