Elizabeth Olsen on her 1940s wardrobe: 'The undergarments are atrocious!'

As the cast of I Saw The Light, the highly anticipated Hank Williams biopic, took to the red carpet, one might have thought the film was about a current-day pop heartthrob given the deafening screams of fans behind the velvet ropes at the Ryerson Theatre. Stars Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston dazzled fans and reporters alike at the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Elizabeth, who plays Hank's wife Audrey in the film, was clad in a silky black Juan Carlos Obando gown with asymmetrical hemline, bell sleeves and peplum detailing. As always, the fresh-faced beauty kept her hair and makeup perfectly simple: an elegant updo, smokey eyes and a dusty-rose lip.

The evening's getup was in stark contrast to the period wardrobe she donned in the film, which is set in the 1940s. "I love the clothes in that era," the Avengers star told Hello! exclusively. "I enjoyed every single outfit." Well, almost. "The undergarments are atrocious! They didn't invent elastics yet so you have nylons being hooked on with clips and a girdle that doesn't fit. It's just frustrating. But I wore it!" she said with a laugh.

Elizabeth also told Hello! about her preparation for the real-life role, and the fact that, in some ways, it's easier than tackling a fictional character. "It started with as much information as I could find on Audrey, sound bytes of her singing, the radio show they would do together, and then it turned into getting to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame to see these archival photo albums and journals and old magazines," she said. "It's a gift almost to play someone who really existed because there are so many resources that you can rely on."

While their relationship is strained online, Elizabeth and co-star Tom are rumoured to have found love off screen. Back in July, the duo enjoyed a quiet lunch before taking a stroll, during which Tom draped his arm around Elizabeth. Neither has confirmed the romance, but one thing is for sure: Elizabeth must be thrilled to be free of those girdles!
