As mermaids splashed around in the pool at Thompson Toronto with a twinkling city skyline as their backdrop, a star-studded group descended on the hotel to toast Hello! Canada's 10th anniversary in style. From the lobby bar with its exclusive VIP lounge to the whimsical rooftop, revellers like Stephan James, Emily Hampshire, Karl Wolf, Kreesha Turner and the Property Brothers were keen to celebrate the festival and wish us a "Happy Birthday!"
"Is it 10 already? Wow! So many of my best TIFF memories are at the Hello! party, so it's exciting to be here," said The Strain star Natalie Brown. "You guys are so supportive of Canadian talent and programming."
The tipples were flowing as well-heeled partygoers made their way from the red carpet to the lobby bar by way of the Audi selfie wall and Texture photo booth. On one side of the newly decorated space, Estée Lauder treated the crowd to unique fashion caricatures, rendered on the spot using tablets. Across the way, it was all about the bling as Pandora frosted the throngs with foil tattoos - something we think would have gone perfectly with Francesco Yates and Kiesza's gold-embellished homegrown designs!
"This is a local designer in Toronto," Kiesza said of her intricately adorned two-piece ensemble. Francesco got his sequinned look in Toronto, too. "This is a custom piece made for me by a little shop on Queen Street called Get Me Fly, they specialize in a lot of this very shiny, extravagant stuff, which I find myself drawn to."
Guests, on the other hand, were drawn to the rooftop, where Prosecco was flying off the ice bar and generously cool breezes set a welcome change of pace after a humid summer. Tweeting the good times using the #Hello10 hashtag, the party raged on past its 11 pm finish before the final few grabbed their gift bags and we set off to rest before embarking on the next 10 years of Hello! Canada.
