The first teaser for Grace of Monaco was released this week, and the Olivier Dahan-directed snapshot of Grace Kelly’s life as the Princess of Monaco looks royal indeed.
Set to the classical Puccini song "O Mio Babbino Caro," the voice-over refers to Grace as the "fairytale," and warns that peace will come when she “embrace[s] the roles [she has] been destined to play.”
Herein lies the problem: Was this the role Grace truly desired? It is a role that swept all of the Hollywood actress’s other roles out of the picture and swept her across the sea to a country without peace.
Quentin Tarantino-favourite Tim Roth takes on the role of Prince Rainier III, while Chosen’s Milo Ventimiglia plays Grace’s publicist, Rupert Allen.
In a haze of warm lighting, the teaser is high on style but limited in scope – we’ll have to wait and see what the La Vie En Rose director has in store.
Grace of Monaco will hit theatres in December.
