Julia Roberts: My husband "made me believe in myself in a whole new way"

Low-key actress Julia Roberts has opened up about her husband, Danny Moder, thanking him for his love and support in a surprising speech at the Hollywood Film Awards on Monday.

As the Oscar-winner accepted the supporting actress award for her role in August: Osage County, she said: "More than anything, the singular man who got me out of the house and on a plane to Oklahoma to do this [movie] – and it made me believe in myself in a whole brand new way – is my husband, who is here tonight… Danny Moder. I love you, babe.”

She also spoke about her and Danny’s first date, telling the audience that her voracious appetite sealed the deal for the happy couple.

"Fortunately, I am a hearty eater, which I told my husband 13 years ago when he asked me out on a date,” she said. “'Prepare yourself. I won’t just have a salad.' But that's worked out for us."

Julia, 45, and her cameraman husband have been happily married for over a decade. They surprised guests with an impromptu wedding on July 4, 2004, in which attendees thought they were attending an Independence Day party.

They are also proud parents to eight-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel and six-year-old son Henry. Preferring to keep their relationship out of the limelight, the family lives between a house in Malibu and a farm in New Mexico.
