Oscar-nominated Hollywood icon Doris Day celebrated her 90th birthday at her Carmel-By-The-Sea, California residence on April 4, marking her first public appearance in 20 years.
The reclusive Calamity Jane star was feted with cake, renditions of “Happy Birthday,” a retrospective of her career and a live auction, with all proceeds benefitting the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
About the affair, Doris said, “Tonight is the big celebration and I can’t wait to see who turns up. Even at 90 years young I’m still feeling the thrill of it all!”
Doris retired from film in 1973, amassing more than 39 acting credits in hits like That Touch of Mink, Pillow Talk and Love Me or Leave Me and a number of singing credits, releasing an album as recently at 2011 (with little promotion).
She joked in a recent interview that “all I ever wanted in my life was to get married, have kids, keep house and cook, and even though I did all these things, I still ended up in Hollywood.”
90 has never looked this good.
