Steven Spielberg will direct an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s ‘BFG’
Steven Spielberg will return to directing in 2015, taking on the Melissa Mathison-adapted screenplay for Roald Dahl’s The BFG.
Melissa cut her teeth working with the Catch Me If You Can director on the 1982 classic E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and the duo will be joined by producer Frank Marshall.
The Lincoln director has not made a feature film since 2012, but the award-winning filmmaker said in a press release that he is “honoured that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story,” which follows a little girl's adventure meeting the Big Friendly Giant and joining forces with him to rid the world of his equally massive yet evil contemporaries.
Steven, 67, is currently producing a Cold War thriller with Tom Hanks that he is likely to direct, marking a long-awaited comeback for the Jaws director.
