‘I love this country’: Tom Cruise delights fans at the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ premiere in Toronto

Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance at Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre on Thursday night, delighting throngs of fans who had gathered at the supposedly “secret” red-carpet event.

After a 24-hour press blitz, in which he attended three movie premieres in three cities in just one day (London, Paris and New York), Tom continued the whirlwind junket, touching down in Toronto on May 29 for another show-stopping performance.

Flashing his megawatt smile, the actor reportedly went above and beyond with the crowds, posing for selfies, wrapping his arms around admirers and all but ignoring the red carpet’s velvet rope.

When Entertainment City reporter Brad Smith asked Tom what keeps him coming back to Canada, the megastar didn’t miss a beat.

“I love this country,” he said. “It’s good people here.”

The actor has been busy promoting his new sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow, which also stars Emily Blunt, and tells of Tom’s character reliving the events of one day over and over in an epic battle to save the world.

“She kicks my butt in the movie,” he told Brad, marvelling at Emily's action prowess. “It was a lot of fun.”

The film premieres in theatres across Canada on Friday, June 6. Watch Tom's interview in Toronto below!
