‘I Wanna Marry Harry’ star Matthew Hicks opens up about quirky reality show

Here's a surprising twist we did not expect from Fox's quirky new reality series, I Wanna Marry Harry: It's lookalike star may have actually found love!

The show has a similar premise to Joe Millionaire and follows Matthew Hicks, a bachelor from England, who pretends to be Prince Harry though he’s really just a regular guy “with a nine-to-five job."

Matthew Hicks is hoping to find a wife by emulating Prince Harry

Throughout the series, he neither confirms nor denies his status, but leaves it up to the ladies to decide who he really is for themselves — all while dropping subtle hints, like traveling via helicopter and holding lavish masquerade balls.

Speaking exclusively with Roz & Mocha on Toronto’s Kiss 92.5, the star defended the show’s sneaky premise as well as the women who appeared on it.

“They’re susceptible to believing certain things, but they’re not stupid,” he says of the contestants, explaining that a good number of women on the show may have suspected they were being duped.

“I did feel bad at times, but it’s an entertainment show and we were there for a purpose,” he adds.

Prince Harry reportedly thinks the show's premise is 'really fun'

Though the screwball reality series promises a "big reveal" at the end, in which Matthew's true identity is revealed, it seems as though it may not have been all for nought. Most surprisingly, the former bachelor hints that he may have actually found love on the show (he now has a girlfriend), though he was careful to keep mum on the details when pressed by hosts Roz and Mocha.

“There are some genuine attachments formed during the show. It’s bound to happen,” he said.

And what does the real Prince Harry think of all this? The royal family hasn’t commented, though Matthew’s heard rumours that Harry is, in fact, amused by the concept.

“Apparently fairly recently, Harry has been rumoured to have commented on the idea and thinks it’s really fun,” he said.

I Wanna Marry Harry airs Tuesdays on Fox at 8 pm.
