The big payday comes from a lucrative back-end deal on Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity, in which the 50-year-old actress starred alongside George Clooney. The film, which won seven Oscars, generated $716 million worldwide in box office sales.
This isn’t the first time Sandra has dominated the Forbes list, either. She was number one in 2010 after winning an Oscar and earning $56 million for her role in The Blind Side.
According to Forbes reports, this was a year where back-end agreements (actors securing a cut of their films' profits) proved to be the crux for high earnings. Jennifer Lawrence’s starring role in The Hunger Games led to a deal that earned the actress bonus dollars in addition to her salary. Combined with thepayout from her role in X-Men: Days of Futures Past, the Silver Linings Playbook actress came in second with annual earnings of $34 million.
Even Friends alumni Jennifer Aniston, third place on the Forbes list, took home box-office profits from Horrible Bosses and We’re the Millers as part of a lucrative contract that drew a whopping $31 million income this past year.
Last year’s top spot went to Angelina Jolieand she’s still resting comfortably infifth place with earnings of $18 million from roles such as Maleficent. And 2012’s top earner, Kristen Stewart, drops to tenth place with earnings in the ballpark of $12 million.
