The moving clip shows the singer-turned-actress striking the keys of a piano looking quite ghostly while The Giver looks on and recounts the life of his beloved Rosemary.

The Giver is a 1993 children's story by Lois Lowry that toes the line between utopian and dystopian fiction, and tells the story of Jonas (played by Brenton Thwaites), who is set to inherit the role of Receiver of Memory.

His role is necessary, given that the society has eliminated anguish and suffering by electing to lead a life of “Sameness,” which ensures that emotional depth is a long-forgotten reality. By maintaining an archive of memories, Jonas can assist in making decisions in a world where people lack the insight or precedents to do so themselves.

Jeff Bridges, 64, takes on the title role of The Giver, an elder who once laid claim to the role of Receiver but now serves to oversee the community and guide Jonas.

The Giver boasts an all-star cast, featuring performances by Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes, and hits theatres on Aug. 15, 2014.
