Sofia Vergara is officially a U.S. citizen: 'I got all the questions perfect'

Congratulations Sofia Vergara! The Colombian-born beauty is now a full-fledged citizen of the United States after having passed her naturalization test with flying colours.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, the Modern Family star opened up about the process of becoming an American.

" You thought I was here illegal?" joked the 42-year-old actress. "I couldn't be illegal and be showing my face on national TV. I mean, I would have to be low key."

Proving that she possesses both beauty and brains, the brunette stunner revealed that she “got all the questions perfect” on her citizenship test. Next, she described how she recited the Oath of Allegiance.

“They make you swear you’re going to fight for the United States,” said the star, which prompted laughter from Jimmy.

“Are you going to fight for the United States?” he asked, to which Sofia replied, “I’m ready!”

Jokes aside, the mother of one went on to explain how being officially sworn in was an “emotional” moment for her. "It took me a lot of time to get my residence even though I was working here for a long time,” she said.

After studying dentistry at a university in Colombia for three years, Sofia moved to Miami in her 20s to pursue her modelling and acting career.

The Emmy-nominated actress, who is dating Joe Manganellio, is currently TV’s highest-paid star, earning $37 million last year, according to Forbes.
