Fans around the world swooned when George Clooney paid tribute to his new wife, Amal Clooney, at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Ellen DeGeneres, however, had a slightly different take on the touching moment. The talk show host released her own hilarious spoof of the speech, showing her reaction when she realizes George is addressing Amal, and not her.
In the clip, Ellen can be seen superimposed next to Amal during the handsome Hollywood actor's emotional acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Llifetime Achievement Award.
As George tells the audience, “It’s a humbling thing when you find someone to love”, the 56-year-old looks flattered as she sips champagne and gazes around the room in gratitude.
But it’s not long before she realises she is not the subject of George’s adoration. “Amal?!” she says incredulously, spitting out her drink in surprise. Ellen can then be seen reluctantly admitting defeat, rolling her eyes and clapping as Amal smiles on.
“I don’t know why they sat me next to her, or why I was wearing a dress,” the funny TV star quipped after airing the video on her chat show.
George’s sweet and sincere words to his wife weren’t the only part of his speech to hit home. The Oscar-winner dedicated the final portion of his speech to the unity marches in Paris in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo shooting.
“There were millions of people that marched not just in Paris but around the world. And they were Christians and Jews and Muslims,” he said.
“There were leaders of countries of all over the world, and they didn’t march in protest. They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear. We won’t do it. Je suis Charlie. Thank you.”
