Chris Pratt has been named Man of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, making him the second Parks & Recreation star to be honoured by the historic comedy troupe in 2015.
Earlier this month, his co-star Amy Poehler was named Woman of the Year by “the Pudding,” which is the oldest student theatre organization in the United States.
“We vehemently deny that the members of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals are obsessed with Parks & Recreation,” said group president Jason Hellerstein in a statement.
“Joking aside, Chris Pratt’s recent achievements as an actor are outstanding and we could not be more thrilled to host him and celebrate his talent as only the Pudding can.”
Amy will be honoured on Jan. 29 while Chris will receive his award on Feb. 6 following a parade through Harvard Square and a comedy roast, as per tradition.
Each year, the student troupe celebrates one man and one woman “who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment.” Jane Fonda was the first celebrity winner to make an unanticipated appearance at the event, showing up to personally accept her award in 1961. Since then, A-list honourees have taken the designation very seriously and have all attended the ceremony.
Last year’s winners were Helen Mirren and Oscar host Neil Patrick Harris, while other notable past honourees include Sandra Bullock, James Franco and Julianne Moore.
Hasty Pudding was formed in 1795 by an artsy fraternity and is known for its all-male cast and burlesque cross-dressing musicals. Famous former members include Theodore Roosevelt, Oscar-winner Jack Lemmon and comedian Andy Borowtiz.
